I took a poll in the Mareathoner Facebook Group and much to my excitement, you voted for another Brene Brown book for the MareReads Book Club! Last year we read Braving the Wilderness which is one of my all-time favourites. (You can peruse my Reading List to see what others I love.)
Brene is a doctor and researcher who studies shame and vulnerability. If you haven't checked out her talk on Netflix, The Call to Courage, I can't recommend it enough! I feel like it's a great way to be introduced to her style and wit and intelligence.
So, we are all diving into The Gifts of Imperfection for this round of the MareReads Book Club. We will meet on June 24th in a Facebook Live in the group to discuss the book. There's always a lively discussion when it comes to Brene!
I have learned so much from Brene ever since being introduced to her by my therapist a few years ago. She has great interviews on both the SuperSoul podcast and the Armchair Expert podcast. I credit her with so much of my bravery in the past couple years, especially since becoming a widow. Being brave and my authentic self are definitely not easy and sometimes not popular. Do you ever find that when you are trying to make a change that is both terrifying and exciting at the same time? The scariest experiences I've had have definitely become some of my most defining moments. Brene's books and research is helpful and also time and time again helps me feel less alone as I brave the wilderness.
The next pick is going to be a fun, easy beach read. So if you have any requests, let me know!
