A Widow on World Mental Health Day

Today is World Mental Health Day and ordinarily I am very torn on days like today. On one hand, I want everyone to be comfortable to talk about their mental health and seek help year-round. But, I also understand that it isn't easy and sometimes a day like today gives people a push. If you are struggling, you are not alone. Period. Full stop. You are not alone. Hundreds of thousands of people feel the same way you do. You do not have to suffer in silence. Feeling down or depressed or anxious can feel extremely isolating and the last thing many people want to do is face their feelings and their fears.
Please do.
Please talk to someone and get help. Trust me when I say it is bright and beautiful on the other side of mental health. Just last week while I was on vacation I was overwhelmed in realizing how much better I feel after putting in years of work on my health. I was in therapy for four years and still do check-ins once in a while. I have made many changes from my profession to my personal life. None of them have been easy or flippant. But they all lead me to happiness and peace.
I want this for you.
One year ago today I posted a video and my feelings still resonate today.
You are not alone.
You are not damaged goods.
You deserve a calm, happy life.
